TV, Film and Voiceover
I started to get small roles in Film and TV in the early 1990's such as the Chess Adjudicator in The Grass Arena, staring Mark Rylance, and a foreign office official in ITV's Agatha Christie's Poirot. My abilities as a character actor and a student of history lead to me subsequently appearing in featured roles for the BBC and Independent producers depicting historical characters that have included Henry VIII in History File for BBC2, and George Prince Regent in, Kings in Waiting and Britains Finest… both for the BBC, and Dr. Francis Willis, infamous doctor to ‘mad’ King George III, in Royal Deaths and Diseases. In 2006 I depicted the Prince Regent on the BBC Holiday Programme, discussing my interpretation of this monarch with Lawrence Lewelyn-Bowen. I have also featured as Sir Robert Cecil in BBC’s Timewatch, The Gunpowder Plot (see picture on the right), Archbishop Laud, a Magic Lantern Showman for BBC’s Blue Peter, Sir Walter Raleigh, and others.
As a ‘character presenter’ I helped write, devise and present an episode of ‘Mummy Autopsies, the Mummy in the Tower’ for the Discovery Channel, which was based on the book I had written on the subject entitled “The Disposition of Jimmy Garlick”.
I have worked on a number of ‘voice over’ and recording projects, notably on the Dr Who Audio Dramas made by ‘Big Finish Productions’ where I played ‘Eldrin’ in the four part story ‘Scaredy Cat’, and took the lead as ‘Godfather Morlock’ in the Dr Who spin off series ‘Faction Paradox’, in the Audio Drama episodes entitled ‘Seven Day Empire’, ‘The Shadow Play’ and ‘Movers’. I have provided Voiceover for computer games and appeared in promotional videos and adverts for numerous clients including English Heritage and the BBC (such as "The 30's shop" see picture on the right).
